One more year the star of the Gurb cross shines again, in the Osona region, as seen in this series of photographs in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos.

The star is a symbol in the Osona region, since it is visible not only from Gurb, but from other places in the area, such as Vic.

In addition, it is a splendid viewpoint, being located in the old Gurb castle, at 841 meters above sea level, on the top of a hill. It stands right behind the old parish church of Sant Andreu (563 meters).

After its ruin practically since the 14th century, in a 1968 excavation carried out by a group from Gurb, the base of a large circular tower, fragments of wall, the beginnings of an arch and the cistern appeared.

The Gurb star suffered some mishaps in recent years. In 2020 it was turned off for 10 days after the generator and the light bulbs that keep it on were stolen. In 2019 the same thing also happened and the solar panels were even stolen.
