Last Saturday, prominent leaders of the PSPV and Compromís recognized that the Valencian left could become extremely weak if Pedro Sánchez had resigned. To the crossing of the desert that began after 28-M, to the change of leadership in both formations, still to be resolved in the case of the Valencians, and to the difficulty of presenting a vindication story to the Government of which they are a part, one could add the added factor of uncertainty, whatever formula was enacted next: investiture or new elections. That’s why yesterday the relief was evident.

In the PSPV, because the scheme encouraged by Ferraz in the organization of the federation is maintained, with Diana Morant as the person who is trusted, and in the election of others who, like Sandra Gómez, will occupy a starting position for the European. In Compromís, because the balance relationship between Sumar and the support of the Spanish executive is not altered, despite the fact that the relationship between Joan Baldoví’s training and that of Yolanda Díaz is not at its best, and with many risks in the face to the future. Yesterday, an old wound festered in Compromís, that of Mónica Oltra, the conviction, they point out, that the President of the Government has been able to face a situation in a context that bears some similarity to that suffered at the time by the former vice president. Valencian.

The Valencian left, especially the PSPV, has generated in recent months, as is the case in other federations, and even more so since the departure of Ximo Puig, an enormous dependence on Pedro Sánchez. The “presidential” model has slowed down the possibility of moving towards a federal organization (even if it is defined that way), which is what Puig and his people longed for, and for better or worse, the consequences are going to connect what happens more than ever with the leader of the PSOE to what may happen in Valencian socialism. It is the model that makes it difficult, for example, for the PSPV to now establish itself as a battering ram against the Government’s policies in matters such as financing, investments or water, a terrain that Carlos Mazón’s executive will take advantage of to set the Valencian political agenda. . We will see it next Thursday in the meeting between the Valencian president and Diana Morant. The minister will confront the policies of the PP and Vox in matters such as historical memory or the Valencian language, while Mazón will question the will of Valencian socialism to defend the interests of the Valencian Community.

That is why it is important for the left that Sánchez has not resigned, because another scenario would have left the PSPV, and indirectly Compromís, without a framework of action that, better or worse, is the one that now supports the political strategy of both formations on the Valencian board. . Things, in the end, remain more or less as they were, although everything is likely to get worse in the difficult desert journey of the Valencian left.
