MBTA Red Line service between JFK/UMass and Kendall/MIT will be suspended from August 19th to August 25th for system improvements. This work aims to provide riders with a more reliable trip by addressing issues with older tracks, infrastructure, signals, and power. The MBTA stated that this maintenance will lead to fewer unplanned disruptions and a safer ride for passengers.
During this suspension, shuttle bus service will be available free of charge between the two stops, with stops at all locations except Park Street and Downtown Crossing. This shutdown is part of the MBTA’s Track Improvement Program, which includes track and tie replacements to reduce speed restrictions on the line. Additionally, crews will use this time to work on signals and upgrade station amenities such as lighting, painting, tiling, and power washing.
