The former president of the government Mariano Rajoy, the former vice president Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría and the former government delegates in Catalonia Enric Millo and Maria Eugènia Gay have not attended the investigation commission on espionage with Pegasus and Candiru of the Parliament where they were summoned.

This is the second time that they plant the commission, since the Parliament had already summoned them in the session of June 2. Only Rajoy has excused himself by burofax, relying on opinions of the Council of State that consider that he does not have the obligation to appear, while the other three cited have not given any response to the Parliament.

Due to the lack of appearances, the spokespeople of ERC, JxCat, the CUP and the common members of the commission -Jordi Orobitg, Josep Rius, Montserrat Vinyets and Lucas Ferro, respectively- have agreed to transfer to the Parliament Table the proposal to denounce before the He would prosecute the non-appearance of the four mentioned, as provided for in the regulations of the Catalan Chamber.

In a subsequent press conference, Orobitg, Rius and Vinyets have acknowledged that they have “no hope” in the action of the Prosecutor’s Office, but that they will exhaust all procedural channels in Spain, and then go to European and international instances.

“The regulations of the Parliament indicate the obligation to appear in those matters within the competence of the Generalitat. In this case, within the object of this commission there is a matter as sensitive as data protection, which is the exclusive competence of the Generalitat de Catalunya; therefore, there is this legal obligation,” Orobitg has justified.

For his part, Rius, who recalled that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and other members of the Government such as Vice Presidents Nadia Calviño and Yolanda Díaz, or Ministers Fernando Grande-Marlaska and Margarita Robles, did not previously appear in this committee, denounced the “contempt” of the political leaders who have not appeared before Parliament.

“Whoever does not appear today is Spanish democracy, incapable of purifying its sewers. They do not appear because they know they are guilty and because they do not want to answer questions and purify these responsibilities,” added Rius.

Along the same lines, Vinyets has denounced that “when it comes to structural issues of the State, the two great parties of the regime behave in the same way, to avoid investigations and protect the violation of fundamental rights.”
