The Sónar advanced music festival, one of the traditional events on Barcelona’s cultural agenda, will be the common thread of the great Piromusical that, as is traditional, will put the finishing touch to the Mercè 2023 festivities.

The closing ceremony of Barcelona’s main festival, the most massive of four days of festivities, will bring together all the Mercès that will have occupied the city since September 22: the musical, the scenic and the traditional, the innovative and the popular .

The pyromusical is a citizen festival, a total spectacle. Fire and music, perfectly synchronized, are the protagonists of a night in which the people of Barcelona look towards Montjuïc, to be surprised once again by the drawings and pirouettes of the fireworks.

This year, in addition, will have a very special soundtrack: the Sónar festival will provide the music to the Piromusical de la Mercè to celebrate the 30 years of life of this Barcelona event with international projection. There are three decades of history condensed into a great 25-minute show that begins on Monday, September 25 at 10 p.m. in Montjuïc and with which Barcelona bids farewell to Mercè 2023 and, at the same time, pays tribute to a festival that attracts to thousands of visitors from all over the world.

The soundtrack of the La Mercè Pyromusical has been designed by those responsible for Sónar. The show will offer a global tour through experimental sounds and voices and rhythms from the five continents that will dialogue with the pyrotechnic proposal.

It will be an intercultural trip starring different urban music and a great party that will dance to the sound of great classics and the most legendary names in electronic music, from Catalan talents such as Bad Gyal, Rosalía, Desert or Maria Arnal to electronic figures from dance like Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Buraka Som Sistema, Omar Souleyman or Aphex Twin.

The proposal is completed with references from disco, house and techno such as Todd Terje, Laurent Garnier, Miss Kittin or Jeff Mills. Tribute will also be paid to the recently deceased Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.

The soundtrack is signed by Sónar in collaboration with Phran, producer and regular DJ at the festival.

Pirotecnia Igual will be in charge of illuminating the night sky of Barcelona with a spectacular and innovative proposal. His brand has been forever associated with milestones such as the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
