The general secretary of the Valencian socialists, Ximo Puig, has assured that today is “a key day” that makes us move forward as a country. This was stated after the change in regulations in the Congress of Deputies that will allow the use of co-official languages ??in the lower house, an issue that he has welcomed. Likewise, he regretted that the use of Valencian in the Congress of Deputies will be a reality “despite the vote against the PPCV”: “The Popular Party of the Valencian Community has voted against the use of Valencian in the Congress , one more example of the little importance they give to our language.”

In that sense, the general secretary of the Valencian socialists has highlighted that today the Congress of Deputies, which represents all Spaniards, “is more like Spain” and has criticized that, in the face of those who believe that “being able to use “el valenciano” is “to make a fool of yourself,” in reference to the statements of the popular Sémper, “today thousands of people see how the Congress of Deputies speaks in their language.”

On this issue, the Minister of Finance and spokesperson for the Valencian executive, Ruth Merino, has indicated that the first thing that has to be “very clear” is that what is going to be talked about is Valencian and not “Valencian/Catalan.”

Merino has assessed, in the press conference after the plenary session of the Valencian Government, that “since there is a territorial chamber, such as the Senate, where the co-official languages ??are already used, we do not see the imperative need to spend a large amount of money” so that it is also in another chamber.

“Until now there has been no problem in relating to all of us – in Congress – with the common language, which is Spanish,” he noted. Merino considers that “in any case, it has been decided like this and the important thing is that it is known that the official language of the Valencian Community is Valencian along with Spanish.”
