Prince Nicholas of Greece and Tatiana Blatnik separate after 14 years of marriage

The Greek royal family announced a few hours ago that Prince Nicholas of Greece, cousin of King Philip VI of Spain and second son of King Constantine II of Greece and Anne Mary of Denmark, has ended his marriage with Tatiana Blatnik. The couple married in August 2010, so they had been married for more than a decade. In the statement, the royals highlight how difficult it was for the two involved to make the decision.

“Both express the difficulty of this decision, the deep appreciation and respect they have for each other, but also the love with which they have walked all these years,” the Royal House began by saying, ensuring that both will continue living in Greece. On the other hand, they point out that “the same values ??of respect and understanding will form the basis of their relationship in the future, a relationship of deep and sincere friendship.” The royals also ask for “respect and discretion” at this time.

Tatiana of Greece and Prince Nicholas met outside Greek borders. Specifically, it was during a New Year’s Eve party in Switzerland. Then, they began a romantic relationship and after seven years together, Prince Nicholas asked her to marry him. The engagement ring belonged to Queen Ingrid of Denmark. Thus, the couple would begin to take one of the most important steps of their lives.

It wasn’t until August 2010 when they said ‘I do’. It was a wedding in style, which was quite a social event, since it was the first Greek royal wedding in 70 years. Some of the notable members who attended the wedding included Victoria de Bourbon Two-Sicilies, Lady Gabriella Windsor, Empress Farah Diba, Kings William and Maxima of the Netherlands, Frederick and Mary of Denmark, and Queen Margaret, as well as the Royal Family Spanish. It should be remembered that Doña Sofía is Nicolás de Grecia’s aunt, so she could not be missing.

It was then that Nicolás left his life in London, the land where he grew up, to return to the place where his ancestors lived, Greece. Both became the first members of the Greek Royal Family to take up residence in the country, since 1974, when the monarchy was abolished in the country. Tatiana assured that the move was “a blessing”, since it allowed them both to develop those “passions” that they had in mind.
