The mayor of Premià de Mar (Maresme), Rafa Navarro, has requested the El Maresme Regional Council to sanction the private partner of the company Servicios Educativos y Sociales del Maresme (SESMAR) S.L. to take over the outstanding debt with the workers of the Home Assistance Service (SAD). Otherwise, the City Council does not rule out taking the corresponding actions to unblock the situation.

It should be remembered that in January 2021 the municipal plenary session of Premià approved the agreement with the Maresme Regional Council for the delegation of the competence of the service. The agreement was extinguished by the City Council in September of the same year “due to the malfunction of the company that managed the service” according to a press release. Subsequently, the Consistory assumed the service, through another company, which subrogated the workers.

The workers claimed €8,645 from Sesmar SL for overtime and other pending items. The Labor and Social Security Inspectorate of Catalonia has recognized that the payment corresponds to Sesmar, SL. After several claims by the City Council to the Regional Council, the mayor today sent a letter to his manager and his president to take action against the company that refuses to pay this debt to the workers. Specifically, Navarro has asked the Regional Council to propose a sanction to the private partner of SESMAR, SL for the same amount claimed, in order to redirect its attitude.

In the event that the corresponding file for the imposition of sanctions is not processed by the Regional Council to redirect the attitude of the private partner of the company Sesmar, SL, the City Council does not rule out carrying out the corresponding administrative or criminal actions.
