Police said that gunfire broke out late Saturday in Philadelphia, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to 13 others.
Inspector D.F. said that officers were patrolling the city’s central nightlife area shortly before midnight and “observed multiple active shooters shooting into crowds.” Pace from the Philadelphia Police Department spoke at a news conference on Sunday morning.
Pace stated that one officer fired at one shooter, but it wasn’t clear if they were hit. He said, “But the officer was in a position to get that individual dropped his gun and fled at this point.”
He said that 14 people were injured in gunfire, and they were taken to the local hospitals. He said that three of the victims, two men (one man) and one woman were declared dead after arriving at the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies.
He didn’t provide any information regarding the condition of the injured.
Officials at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital said that nine victims were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Two of them were already dead when they arrived. They said that seven of the other victims were stable.
Pace stated that investigators had recovered two semiautomatic handguns “one with an extended mag” from the scene. He also said that multiple casings were found in this area.
Pace stated that “we expect to be in a position to collect a lot of surveillance footage” and added that there were many businesses in the vicinity.
