The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, yesterday closed the tenth edition of the South Summit, which was held in Madrid between June 8 and 10, with the announcement of a plan to promote, retain and attract innovative scientific talent to Spain that the Council of Ministers will approve next Tuesday.
Within the framework of the largest meeting of entrepreneurs and digital ecosystem that takes place in Spain, the President of the Government explained that the plan will be developed for 18 months and will consist of a battery of 30 measures with which “more opportunities and better conditions will be promoted. for the development of the scientific career with more pre and postdoctoral contracts”. He also foresees that the State Research Agency will launch a new call for research consolidation for 2022 aimed at “strengthening the professional career of young researchers, national and foreign, starting lines of research and accessing a permanent position after completing their postdoctoral itinerary” . At the closing ceremony, Pedro Sánchez presented the Madrid-based start-up Payflow with the award for overall winner of the South Summit 2022.
Barcelona-based Nextmol received the award for Best Team. This Barcelona start-up has created a virtual laboratory to accelerate the design of better and more sustainable chemical products. All this thanks to computational techniques such as molecular modeling and machine learning. Nextmol was also the winning start-up in the Industry 5.0 vertical.
During his speech, Pedro Sánchez acknowledged that the South Summit has established itself as an unavoidable event in the Spanish ecosystem. “The Spain of 2022 is very different from that of 2012, and a large part of that merit lies in the Spaniards who get up every day to move their companies forward. You have done your part. Spanish entrepreneurship has multiplied by five in the last year and, thanks to you, Spain was the fifth country in the European ranking of unicorns during 2021”, he assured.
For her part, the founder of the South Summit, María Benjuema, thanked Sánchez for fulfilling his promise to promulgate a Start-ups law, as well as for having retouched the initial project with the suggestions of the entrepreneurs, and took the opportunity to demand that the president recognition of the figure of the serial entrepreneur.
