The PDECat wants to rebuild its space and start the transition towards a new political brand, Espai CiU. The general elections on July 23 have caught everyone off guard, including this post-convergent formation, which has lost the majority of assets in favor of Junts. But with Roger Montañola and his speech without complexes and without backpacks, the formation headed by David Bonvehí aspires to obtain representation in the Lower House and sees an opportunity in the appointment with the polls, for which they have 100% of the electoral rights of the JxCat coalition of 2019, to lay the first stone of its “new” project.

The PDECat was already left out of Parliament in 2021 with Àngels Chacón as a candidate. In the municipal elections they have scratched just over 180 councilors, a discreet result. The party, however, continues with its roadmap, although it no longer has the endorsement of former president Artur Mas. Nor with that of Xavier Trias, whom they supported in the municipal elections a few weeks ago. A few days ago, the convergent former mayor made it clear that in addition to him, the former presidents Jordi Pujol and Mas will vote for JxCat.

Both Mas and Trias have been insisting on avoiding the fragmentation of the post-convergent space for some time, for now, without success, except in the Catalan capital, where everyone converged.

But not having the support of significant figures from the old Convergència is not an obstacle for Montañola, a candidate who has landed as an independent after passing through Lliures – he was a deputy for Convergència i Unió and also approached Centerm during its creation process – Make a convergent apology openly.

The motto of the posters is “Ara toca”, which evokes Pujol and his “Això no toca”. But also, in the first act, the leader was clear: “Better Whore i Ramoneta than procés.” “That policy that they said about La Puta and La Ramoneta is much better, you will forgive me for the expression, but it is very popular and well known,” he said at the start of the campaign, in Barcelona.

Thus, from the PDECat they defend negotiating with the central government, whoever the president is, the PP or the PSOE, with the inclusion of Vox in the equations as the only red line.

On the economic level, the formation calls for a foral regime in Catalonia, a claim that connects with the beginnings of the process and the demands of Artur Mas and Carles Puigdemont to Mariano Rajoy. But they want to do all this by turning the page on the stage of recent years. “The process or the politics of nothing,” Montañola pointed out yesterday.
