The tennis player Paula Badosa withdrew in the second round of Wimbledon, while playing the second set against the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk. The Spanish had forced her presence in this Grand Slam, after suffering a fractured vertebra in May. To reach the British Grand Slam, she shortened recovery times and had no preparation in other grass tournaments.

After the first game of the second set, Badosa requested assistance from the physio, who treated him due to back problems and finally could not continue. The Spaniard had committed 20 unforced errors in a first set that she lost 6-1 and in the first game of the second set, in which she lost her serve, and that’s when she decided not to continue.

Badosa still has the mixed doubles competition left, in which he is playing with his partner, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, whom he was seeing until late at night on Thursday when he faced the British Andy Murray.

A game that finally did not end, due to the ‘curfew’ that does not allow tennis to take place after 11:00 p.m. in London. Of course, Badosa left the stands after the second set to rest before his match, in the first turn this Friday and which meant his goodbye in the participation of the individual tournament.

The Spanish, current number 35 in the WTA ranking, has already withdrawn 11 times throughout her career, and this is the second time that it has happened to her in a Grand Slam, after her hasty exit in the third round of Roland Garros from 2022 due to a knee injury.

Badosa was the last female representative of Spain in the Wimbledon singles tournament. Now, it remains to be seen if the tennis player can be present this Saturday when she, along with Tsitsipas, play against the American couple Austin Krajicek and Jessica Pegula.
