Barça has announced the renewal of Pau Cubarsí until 2027 with a clause of 500 million euros. The club has thus protected the 17-year-old central defender who arrived at Barça in 2018 from Girona’s youth football team and who had a clause of 10 million, making him a very attractive piece for the transfer market after his rapid emergence. . Cubarsí will finish the season with number 33 and a reserve team card and the next season will depend on the space available to register him.

Beyond improving its conditions, work will continue so that the agreement includes a commitment to extend the link until 2030, as has already happened with Lamine Yamal, Balde and Gavi. This commitment will be activated when Cubarsí reaches the age of majority. If this is the case, the club ensures that the center-back remains with the Blaugrana at least until he is 23 years old. “Being a culé since I was little and being able to renew is a dream. They are giving me and my teammates many opportunities, we are very happy. We are making the most of them. My challenge is to continue improving and be myself,” said the center back who signed his continuity accompanied by president Joan Laporta, sports vice president Rafa Yuste, sports director Deco and Joan Soler, member of the sports commission and director of grassroots football.

Cubarsí started this season as a first-year youth player and played nine games under Rafa Márquez in the reserve team until he regularly joined the first team routine. His explosion was immediate. He debuted on January 18 in the Copa del Rey match against Unionistas de Salamanca. Four months later he has already accumulated 20 games with the first team in all competitions. On the day of his debut in the Champions League against Napoli in the round of 16 in Montjuïc he won the MVP of the match.

Last summer Cubarsí was on the verge of leaving for Manchester City. Barça Atlètic had signed center back Faye for three million and Cubarsí, who was 16 years old, thought seriously about it. City planned for him to first be at Girona until he came of age. The Masia sports management alerted the coaching staff and the sports leadership. It was Òscar Hernández, Xavi’s brother and second, who called the player to convince him that he had a future. He did not need any more calls from Pau Cubarsí. One day before the preseason with the first team began, he signed for three years, until 2026. Deco was an important part of the process. Cubarsí, who still lives in La Masia, brings personality and plays with an inappropriate maturity, with and without the ball. The club has trusted the youth player who hopes to continue fulfilling dreams.
