Tall and athletic, a former handball player, but above all a tennis player (she reached the round of 16 at Roland Garros as a junior!) and winner of the first edition of the Play with the music contest organized by Aw Lab, Paloma Rivière surprised (and was surprised herself) with the imposing confidence and power of her intimate soul that she displayed on the Damm stage on the opening day of the Cruïlla Festival in Barcelona.
French author and composer (although she remembers and proclaims that Africa, specifically Reunion Island, is also her homeland) achieved an expected crowd at the Barcelona festival where she shared the bill, in her words, “with impressive artists, very well known, it’s a huge pleasure being able to be there with all of them… and I hope it’s a good launching pad and therefore the start of something even bigger”.
To sneak in there, on a bill that includes everything from Nicki Nicole to Placebo, passing through Rubén Blades, Bomba Estéreo or Judit Nedderman, Paloma Rivière, who as an artist signs Bou, has traced a long, very long path, despite the fact that she is still a in her twenties when she moved from rap to the intimate soul that characterizes her now.
Paloma Rivière discovered her love for music and embarked on an exciting career, leaving aside her also promising career as a tennis player. “I won several rap contests and released my first song called Seule,” she explains, with “a conscious and committed rap style.”
Dressed in a green Adidas tracksuit, “I’ve now gotten the sponsor that I didn’t chase so much and didn’t have as an athlete” (she laughs), and two huge earrings that trace the silhouette of her beloved Africa in gold, this rapper couldn’t contain her excitement after his debut at Cruïlla.
She, who created her own music label in 2018 to support other emerging artists, has finally found the platform that can boost her career. “After a decade of experience on stage, I have played in front of twenty or thirty thousand people, but never before as many people as the one on the Damm stage. How many people were there? I don’t know! It’s been a huge crowd! A blast!”.
He deserved it. It was proclaimed, with full authority, the winner of the contest promoted by the leading Italian footwear and lifestyle marketplace, Aw Lab, in which the applicants to sing at CruÏlla put their talent on the line in different activations held in the brand’s stores in Italy and Spain.
