Club Atlético Osasuna has suspended its Security director from employment and salary for the incidents that occurred in the League match against Mallorca with the removal of flags, which it considers “very serious”.
At the meeting of the Board of Directors of Club Atlético Osasuna held on January 16, 2023, it was agreed to open a file to investigate the events that occurred at the El Sadar stadium on January 14, 2023, during the match between Osasuna against Mallorca, when various flags and banners were removed from the stands.
The trigger was the unfurling of a large banner calling for a mobilization on January 28 in Pamplona of which no prior notice had been given. The platform of communist youth from Gazte Koordinadora Sozialista (GKS), which emerged from a split in the youth of the nationalist left, wanted to protest the worsening quality of life affecting the working class.
The security of the rojillo stadium then decided to remove all those that were placed in the stands. This fact led to situations of tension between fans and security personnel for a few minutes. Ikurriñas and Navarra flags were withdrawn, the stands sang “resignation directive” and after a while an agreement was reached so that they could be redeployed.
One of the banners that they tried to remove was that of a boy who asked for the shirt of the Osasuna player Darko Brasanac. The player changed his shirt for the banner at the end of the game.
Once the necessary investigations have been carried out to clarify the facts, the Board of Directors of the C.A. Osasuna, in a meeting for this purpose on February 21, 2023, has unanimously agreed to impose the corresponding sanction according to the disciplinary regime of the current collective agreement on the Director of Security of Osasuna, suspending him from employment and salary.
The club will also notify the security company contracted for the events at the El Sadar stadium of the club’s Internal Regime Rules and implement new communication techniques for matches and/or any show held at the C.A. facilities. Osasuna.
