If a week ago Girona announced that it was suspending the ice rink due to the drought, this Monday the city of Olot inaugurated its equipment that will operate more than 70% with regenerated water.
The installation, located in Plaça Major, wants to boost commerce and restaurants in the city center during the Christmas season. But this year the City Council has adapted to the drought scenario and the track will operate mainly with regenerated water.
Thus, of the 7 centimeters that the ice layer measures, five have been achieved with this resource. A measure that the City Council has adopted together with Agbar, the service concessionaire company in the capital of Garrotxa.
The ice rink, which this year celebrates its 12th edition, plans to attract more than 9,300 people, the record number that the facility reached a year ago. On average, a total of 406 people a day passed through this claim. Merchants estimate that for every user who skates, two more come to the ice rink to buy or eat.
The court hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. until next January 7. Today the track received the first schoolchildren. Until this Wednesday, more than 751 students from centers in Olot, the rest of Garrotxa and the neighboring region of Osona s will slide through the equipment. Another 250 people who belong to clubs or entities have already reserved time to enjoy the installation.
