Authorities said that three people were killed in a shooting at Smithsburg’s manufacturing plant on Thursday afternoon.

Officials from law enforcement confirmed that four people were also injured in the attack. However, officials from the local sheriff’s office said there were four victims. Three of them were killed and one was critically injured.

A Maryland state trooper sustained minor injuries in a confrontation that he had with the suspect. He was captured and is now alive, according to the law enforcement official.

NBC Washington captured images of the scene where the trooper encountered the suspect — a road with a Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe, and unmarked police SUV.

There were numerous evidence markers all over the road.

According to Gov. Larry Hogan spoke with reporters earlier in afternoon and to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect fled in a vehicle, but was stopped on a nearby road.

Sheriff’s Sergeant. Carly Hose stated. It was not possible to determine their exact circumstances.

The sheriff’s office stated in a statement that the suspect “is no longer a danger to the community.”

Local investigators were assisted by the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The attack occurred approximately 8 miles east from Camp David, the presidential retreat. It is not clear if the violence was connected to the retreat.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. and was originally considered to be an active shooter situation.
