Joint request from the Sindicatura de Greuges de Barcelona and the Sindica de Greuges de Catalunya so that the Escola Entença, currently located provisionally in La Modelo, has a definitive location. The two institutions regret that eight years after the creation of the center, a final location and a schedule of action have not yet been defined despite the claims and mobilizations of the educational community.
They assure that the school has suffered “a significant injury” and that the conditions of provisionality, prolonged over time, can “damage the right to a quality education and under conditions of equity” for which they ask the administration to “without further ado” delay and with the highest priority” determine a definitive location.
In a statement, the institutions recall that the Escola Entença was created in the 2016/2017 academic year and the final location had to be the La Modelo campus. But in July 2017, Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Education Consortium informed the center of the possibility that its final location would be another, in the Industrial School. This second was ruled out due to risks to the health of the students as there was an electrical substation.
Subsequently, work has been done with other locations, such as the Paula Montal gardens, but this option did not meet the criteria for the construction of new buildings for public educational centers, and was also rejected. In October 2018, the City Council informed the school that there was a verbal agreement with the Generalitat so that the definitive location of the school would be the site behind the Mercat del Ninot, belonging to the Hospital Clínic. However, today the transfer of this site has not yet been definitively finalized.
In 2022, the City Council reported that the school institute contemplated by the La Modelo Master Plan was finally for the Escola Xirinacs, also provisionally located on the premises. At the same time, it informed the Escola Entença that its final location would not be in La Modelo, although it promised to look for another location.
