Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent surgery early Sunday in which a pacemaker was successfully implanted, his office said in a statement, assuring that the president is in good condition and could be discharged later in the day.
“The medical procedure that the prime minister underwent was successfully completed. The prime minister is feeling well and will remain at Sheba Hospital for observation, and is expected to be released later in the day,” the note said.
The 73-year-old president was discharged precisely a week ago after being hospitalized in an emergency. Israeli media claimed that he had fainted after feeling chest pain, but the official version was that he had suffered from dehydration.
During the medical procedure this morning, the Minister of Justice, Yariv Levin, a great ally of Netayahu, replaced the Prime Minister.
The weekly Cabinet meeting originally scheduled for today (Sunday, July 23, 2023) has been postponed until further notice.
