Nadia Calviño considers Podemos "disappeared" and defends a progressive government led by the PSOE

The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, stressed this Monday that it is “a fact” that Podemos and Ciudadanos “have disappeared” in the last elections and has defended a progressive government led by the PSOE.

In statements on TVE, Calviño has hoped that there will be an agreement between the left-wing parties in view of the next general elections, but that a progressive government is “one led by the PSOE.” “It is a fact and as an observer and as any Spaniard can see when they analyze what happened in the local and municipal elections, the two political parties that emerged with the great financial crisis, Ciudadanos and Podemos, have disappeared,” she added. Calviño, who has shown his commitment to completing the policies undertaken in this legislature.

Asked then if she would like to repeat the current coalition Executive, the economic vice president has indicated that they have been “very intense” years for the alliance of PSOE and Podemos but that the balance is “extremely positive” due to economic and social advances such as the reform labor, among others. “This is a progressive agenda that reflects what the vast majority of Spaniards want and we have to focus on that, on continuing to move in the direction of the best Spain,” she claimed.

And on whether the PSOE should prioritize the electoral campaign of the generals in showing off its economic measures or in encouraging fear of the far-right ruling, the minister recalled that she does not belong to the PSOE but that the Government has tried to explain and communicate the “positive” results of his administration, of an economic policy that “works”.

“Another thing is that the noise, the tension, the hoaxes of the last days of the campaign” of the regional and municipal by the right-wing parties “have misled the attention of what really matters. Of course you cannot go to vote neither with hatred nor with fear, we have to get citizens to vote with enthusiasm, with the desire to continue on this path of progress that we have been on in these last five very difficult years,” he argued.

He has also reiterated that the growth of Vox is due to the fact that the support that this party received in the last general elections has been “projected” to autonomous communities and city councils. Calviño has been “convinced” that the PSOE is going to win on July 23 and continue in the Government, which will help “avoid uncertainty between now and the end of the year” and to face the Spanish Presidency of the EU with an Executive “confirmed at the polls”.

And she has assured that she wants to continue in the Government after the general elections, since she is “committed” to Sánchez, the president, in her opinion, who represents “the best Spain” and whom she has described as an “honest” person who defends the general interest. “I will be by your side. I hope you continue to lead the Government” to “be able to continue to lead economic policy” and “to be able to complete this modernization process that we have launched and we need another legislature to complete it,” he concluded.

Calviño has also charged against the Popular Party, which he accused of carrying out “irresponsible actions” in Doñana and fueling the boycott of the Huelva strawberry in Germany, which is why a group of German deputies is visiting this protected environment this week .

He has stated that he already “saw coming” that the proposal registered in the Parliament of Andalusia by the PP to legalize irrigation was going to have “a negative impact” on Spain and its farmers. “At the first moment we expressed our concern and I honestly saw it coming. I saw coming that precisely this type of irresponsible actions, with a jewel of our heritage such as Doñana, would have a negative impact on the image of our country and would directly affect farmers, who have a high prestige in international markets. “, has declared.

In this sense, he has ensured that the Government has “every interest” in “accompanying” the agricultural sector so that it is increasingly sustainable and makes more efficient use of water. “We see that contrast with the governments of the Popular Party. Where they have the capacity, they immediately go back and try to ignore climate change as if it were not a scientific fact that we have to respond to ”, he added.
