Changes in two of the main streets that cross Barcelona’s Eixample. Aribau and Muntaner will lose one of their four traffic lanes in the coming days to create a service cordon with parking spaces, loading and unloading areas and to relocate waste containers.
This reform arises from the initiative voted and decided within the framework of the participatory budgets of the previous mandate and foresees replacing one of the four existing lanes for circulation on both roads and freeing up space for pedestrians on the sidewalks, bringing motorcycles and containers onto the road. . This will create 900 new parking spaces for motorcycles on the road and 90 for loading and unloading. The work will be carried out from January 13 to 26 in Muntaner and from January 27 to February 9 in Aribau.
The action affects the sections of both streets between Diagonal and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. The road service cordon will be located on the Besòs sidewalk on Muntaner street and on the Llobregat side in Aribau. In both cases there will be two circulation lanes and one for public transport. The City Council hopes that this measure will contribute to improving loading and unloading in an area of ??the city that is very saturated by the distribution of goods and that road indiscipline of delivery trucks and vans and motorcycles that park on the sidewalk will be reduced.
In the sections before the left turns with greater demand, the service cordon will not be enabled, so there will be an exclusive turn lane.
