I had never been to Barcelona before. However, in the next two months she will have been twice. Next month at the Opium nightclub and tonight at the Barcelona Beach Festival. An experience that has described La Vanguardia as a “dream come true”.
The DJ is well aware that the great electronic musical event, one of the most important in Europe, almost did not take place due to differences between the Sant Adrià del Besòs City Council and Bombers, which have been dislodged a few hours from the start of the festival, after an online meeting between the general management of Bombers, led by Joan Delort, and the mayor of Sant Adrià, Filo Cañete. A meeting in which an agreement was reached in extremis that allowed obtaining the favorable risk prevention report to be able to issue the license and hold this one-day summer festival. However, optimistic like no other, the Danish DJ and producer has assured that I never really thought about the possibility that it was not going to take place.
Morten chatted with La Vanguardia shortly before going on stage, while Brian Cross played in the background
The artist said he was not nervous about getting on stage. “I have a lot of respect for the public but I really want us all to enjoy it. I can’t wait to get out.”
When he has done so, he has received a warm welcome from the public, who have cheered his name and began to clap and jump in the sand as if there were no tomorrow.
The one from Aarhus has not hidden his enthusiasm for a night like this and for all the projects he has prepared for this year. He started 2022 with Permanence and anticipates that “some other surprise is yet to come”.
The pandemic, despite the fact that it has been “a very confusing time for everyone”, has turned out to be a most creative period for Morten, who started in the profession at just thirteen years old. Now, and for some time now, the effort is bearing fruit and they have placed him at number 39 in the ranking of world DJs.
His collaborations with David Guetta have made him even better known. They met ten years ago in Los Angeles but they didn’t start working hand in hand until two years ago, when Morten dared to teach him his music. “He told me that I was very special and this overwhelmed me. From there we got to work. For me, he is my mentor in the profession. The best godfather you could have and above all a good friend”, he admits.
Together they created the so-called ‘Future Rave’, a new genre of dance music created by themselves that combines underground techno sounds and that “fills the public with energy. It is not easy to explain. It goes beyond music and genres, it is a movement”.
