The Air Quality Observatory in Camp de Tarragona has detected an increase in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) around the southern chemical industrial estate during 2023.
This is also the area where the highest levels of these components have been recorded after comparing the 22 points in the territory from where samples have been taken. This year, for the first time the captured peaks of 1,3 butadiene have been published.
1% of the 17,000 records captured exceeded the reference value of 20 micrograms per cubic meter. This limit is not set by regulations but has been chosen by the industry itself.
The director of the Repsol industrial complex in Tarragona, Javier Sancho, has said that “the air quality in Camp de Tarragona is good.”
