The April Fair in Seville, in its 2023 edition, has been officially inaugurated with the switching on of its lighting at zero hours this Sunday, turning on in unison both the 25,000 led lights on its cover and the 212,000 that are distributed throughout the fairgrounds, packed to officially start a marathon festive week for the people of Seville.

With absolute punctuality, all the lighting in the enclosure has been turned on, after a gala that has been held at the foot of the façade, which this year mixes distinctive elements of two well-known regionalist buildings: the Plaza de España, the work of the architect Aníbal González; and the Teatro Coliseo España, designed by the architects José and Aurelio Gómez Millán, all in five entrance arches, 40 meters high and 48 meters wide, with a depth of six meters.

A fault could have prevented the entire venue from being illuminated tonight, after a power failure that occurred in part of the venue around 9:30 p.m., which was resolved an hour later.

The cover contains a logo alluding to the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the transfer of the Fair from the Prado de San Sebastián to the neighborhood of Los Remedios, and also honors Casa de Jaén, Francisco Palacios ‘El Pali’ and the National Association of Purebred Spanish Horse Breeders (ANCCE), all under the motto ‘Longing night and day’, the work of the technical architect Gregorio Esteban.

In this 2023 the City Council commemorates the 50th anniversary of the transfer of the Fair from the Prado, for which reason a great show has been held previously that has had the trip to the past as its common thread, specifically the transfer of 1973, presented by Pepe da Rosa and Ana Carvajal.

In addition to the Municipal Symphonic Band, artists such as Siempre Así, Laura Gallego, Enrique Casellas or Los del Río, among others, have participated before the Lighting and, later, the group of Sevillanas Cantores de Híspalis has taken the stage.

For everything to run smoothly, a security device has been designed with nearly 4,000 agents including the National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police, of which 1,915 are national police and 984 civil guards.

The device is joined by, among others, members of Seprona, Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF), Citizen Security Units (USECIC) or the Cynological Service, while the drone unit is activated to control alcohol consumption in the environment del real -as the venue is called because it originally cost a quarter of a peseta (one real) to get to the Fair-, as well as the irregular sale of drinks and food in the area of Calle del Infierno.

In addition, the Seville City Council, through the municipal company Lipasam, has activated a special cleaning device for the April 2023 Fair made up of 564 operators and 113 vehicles, which this year reinforces selective collection throughout the Real of all kinds of packaging, one of the most abundant and voluminous waste generated by the April Fair, with the idea of making this festival a more sustainable event.

And an attempt will also be made to make it a more accessible event, and this year 20 new recesses have been made on the sidewalks of the fairgrounds to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, in addition to the 50 made last year , and two specific parking bags are enabled for accredited vehicles of people with reduced mobility, in all cases for free use.

The fair has just started and will last until Saturday, April 29 at midnight, when a great fireworks display closes eight intense days of festivities at the Seville fairgrounds.
