The Castellers de Montcada i Reixac group celebrated its ninth anniversary last weekend with a performance in the Plaza de la Iglesia, as reflected in this photograph in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

On the castle day, the gangs of Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Viladecans participated as guests in the tile festival.

During this almost decade of life of the castellera group, those from Montcada have accumulated more than 140 performances, with more than 300 pillars built and more than 200 castles.

In 2013, talk began of activating the Castellers de Montcada and Reixac. In January 2014, the rehearsals began, which are now held in the gymnasium of the Midja Costa school in the Terra Nostra neighborhood, with about 90 registered, although they hope to increase the number of castellers with sympathizers from Montcada and the surrounding areas, such as Ripollet, La Llagosta, Barberà or Sabadell.

Now, the colla has a longer past, since we must go back to the 90s of the last century. At the beginning of the summer of 1991, rehearsals began to try to form a human tower group in Montcada.

In June and with approximately 40 members, the Castellers de Montcada i Reixac, who chose the color teja for their shirts, began to walk. In 1992 they sponsored the Castellers de Mollet.

In 1993 the group had 125 members and a year later it had its own premises at Plaza de la Iglesia number 16. That year they managed to reach and establish themselves at the colla level of 7.

In 1994 they sponsored the Castellers of Sabadell and, in 1997, the Castellers of Badalona, ??but, due to lack of economic resources and lack of castellers, the group remained stagnant until, in 1998, it was definitively dissolved until resuming the project in 2013.
