This week the work began prior to the start of the decontamination works on the slope of Les Barques beach by emergency procedure. The discovery of impacted land on the slope of the promenade has delayed and stopped the entire process of expanding the Passeig de Mar, which affected the fish auction area and the construction of a large plaza and new facilities by the Montgat Maritime Club. .
After months of procedures between supra-municipal administrations that have been fruitless and waiting on the part of the population of Montgat, finally the decontamination works on the slope of Les Barques beach have begun urgently.
The decrease in sand on the beach and the possibility of water impacting the slope area has reactivated the need to urgently remove contaminated land and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area has activated the procedure to clean up the slope as quickly as possible.
The presence of machinery, trucks and construction vehicles on the coast and the needs of construction personnel to be able to carry out the work safely is not considered compatible with the recreational use of the beach and, for safety reasons, it has been decided to cut off access to Las Barcas beach from the breakwater to Plaza Sant Joan. For this same reason, pedestrians will also be prohibited from crossing the Paseo from the section from the Torre de Guaita to the Riera d’en Font.
Once the prohibition of passage through the area, beach and promenade has been signaled, and the facilities of the Montgat Maritime Club have been moved to the breakwater area, the machinery will consolidate the surface of the beach to guarantee the safe passage of the necessary vehicles and work machinery. to execute these jobs.
Once the decontamination work is completed, the entire procedure can be continued to begin the urbanization works of the promenade, the fish market and the new sports facilities of the Maritime Club.
