The 22 ministers who make up the new Government of Pedro Sánchez have promised this Tuesday their respective positions before Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Palace as a prior step to assuming the portfolios from their predecessors at the headquarters of each ministry.
The Audience Hall of the palace was the scene of the event (9:30 a.m.) in which all the ministers pledged their respective positions (none have sworn in) in front of an open copy of the Constitution and in the presence of the King with a standardized formula in which there has only been variability when referring to the Council of Ministers.
“I promise, out of my conscience and honor, to faithfully fulfill the obligations of the position of Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, with loyalty to the king, and to keep and ensure the preservation of the Constitution as a fundamental norm of the State, as well as to maintain the secrecy of the deliberations of the Council of Ministers”, Félix Bolaños recited first, which has allowed him to attend the promise of his colleagues as chief notary of the kingdom as head of Justice.
Of the 22 ministers, 15 have added “Ministers” at the end of the promise formula, showing off inclusive language and the Minister of Equality, the socialist Ana Redondo, has given a touch of suspense by pausing after promising to “maintain the secrecy of the deliberations of the Council of Ministers”. “…And Ministers, of course,” she added. She has also paused after “Council of Ministers” the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, to add “… and of Ministers.” Inclusive language has been used by all Sumar ministers, except for the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, and the Minister of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, the former podemite Pablo Bustinduy.
Of the 17 socialist ministers, 12 have used the inclusive formula and five have not. This has been the case of the first vice president and minister of Economy, Commerce and Business, Nadia Calviño; Minister Bolaños; the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles; the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares.
The head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the main institutional representatives were present at the ceremony, such as the president of Congress, Francina Armengol, as well as the president of the Senate, Pedro Rollán, and the president of the Constitutional Court, Cándido Conde-Pumpido. , and the president of the General Council of the Judiciary, Vicente Guilarte.
It so happens that Sofía Puente, General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith, was also present at the ceremony as provisional chief notary in response to Bolaños’ promise. Sofía Puente is the sister of Óscar Puente, the new Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility who this Tuesday also promised the position.
Once the process was completed, the 22 ministers greeted Felipe VI and posed with him and the President of the Government for a photo, the first of the new Executive.
After the event in La Zarzuela, the new ministers or those who assume another portfolio have gone to their respective departments to take possession of their positions.
The new cabinet will meet for the first time this Wednesday at the Moncloa Palace and the traditional family photo will be taken on the steps of the building.
