A goldfish mysteriously ends up in a doctor’s garden. The unusual story goes viral.
A young doctor from Newcastle in the UK unexpectedly acquired a pet. As reported by the BBC, among others, Dr. Ben Beska discovered a live goldfish on his lawn.
The 33-year-old cardiologist saw a group of magpies in his garden one Saturday morning and, upon closer inspection, found the fish in the grass. The doctor did not hesitate to save the fish and first put it in a freezer filled with water. Then he bought an aquarium especially for the fish.
He informed the online community about this unusual event on X (formerly known as Twitter). “It’s really quite crazy to find a fish on the lawn. I have no idea how it got into the garden.”
The goldfish’s fate attracted a lot of attention online. The first post was viewed more than 16 million times, according to the BBC. The story spread so quickly that an X-user created a user account for the fish, called alicebeska.
The BBC further reports that the fish was named Alice after an autocorrect error in a text message the doctor sent to a friend. “it’s alive” became “it’s Alice.”
“Alice” has aroused the interest and curiosity of the online community. The story of the mysterious goldfish has gone viral and sparked numerous comments and speculations about the fish’s origins. The most common theory is that a bird dropped the fish while flying overhead. Beska is now planning to get Alice a larger tank and maybe even a companion.
