Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the Mexican President, took aim at Ted Cruz, Ted Cruz, and Bob Menendez, Cuban American Senators, during Wednesday’s regular press conference. This was in addition to criticisms he has received in recent days.
Lopez Obrador accused the senators and other Cubans in the United States of using their power to maintain the United States embargo against Cuba.
On Monday, the president mentioned Cuba as one of the reasons he didn’t attend the Summit of the Americas hosted by the U.S. This week. The nation was not invited to the Summit of the Americas due to human rights concerns.
Rubio posted a Spanish tweet about Lopez Obrador on Tuesday: “Glad that the Mexican president has not been in the U.S. for the week. He has given over parts of his country to drug cartels, is an apologist to tyranny and murder in Cuba, and is a drug trafficker and dictator in Venezuela.”
Lopez Obrador responded to the tweet Wednesday. He denied drug cartel issues within Mexico and instead hurled criticism at the senators.
He said, “I want evidence.” “Because (Ted Cruz), has evidence that he received money from gun manufacturers in the United States (to lobby for) a ban of sales,” he said.
According to OpenSecrets, Cruz and his campaign received over $440,000 from gun lobbyists throughout his political career.
