Mercadona distributes 600 million bonuses among its staff, 50% more than in 2023

In March, Mercadona will distribute bonuses worth 600 million euros among its more than 100,000 employees. This was announced this Wednesday by the company, which details that the decision of the Mercadona Management Committee wants to reflect the “commitment to shared growth and mutual benefit” of the staff.

This bonus, which employees will receive in the month of March, means adding half an additional bonus, as it joins the bonus for objectives that the company chaired by Juan Roig traditionally distributes each year. In this way, the company will distribute a total of 600 million euros with its staff, 50% more than in 2023, the year in which the total amount distributed was 405 million euros.

The company recalls that the measure has been in place since 2001, when Mercadona shareholders launched this initiative. Since then, the company has distributed with the workers more than 5.58 billion euros, which is traditionally collected in March, when the company also takes stock of the year and presents results at a press conference.

It will be then that the workers, always “from the first year and in case of achieving the goals and objectives agreed upon at the beginning of the year,” the company clarifies, will collect an extra monthly payment on their payroll, an amount that will amount to two monthly payments once they are They are more than five years old; and exceptionally this year, they will also receive an extra bonus corresponding to half of their monthly payment.

It is to the staff that Mercadona attributes the company’s success. “Their commitment to the constant improvement of production and management efficiency has resulted in the highest quality and most economical Menu Cart on the market, making more people choose it every day,” they explain, while recognizing that this work is assuming a “significant increase in the number of customers who make their purchases at Mercadona, consolidating its growth and the constant increase in its market share.”

Last year the company presented a turnover of 31,041 million euros, 11% more than the previous year, and achieved a net profit, after paying taxes and distributing the bonus among its 99,000 employees, of 718 million euros, 5% more than in the previous year.

Mercadona sources highlight that the measure announced today comes due to “the exceptional commitment” of the more than 100,000 people who make up the company and “for their work to improve every day” the experience of their customers, the quality of the products and the ” constant implementation” of technological and innovative improvements.

Likewise, the company celebrates that “for all this we have earned this year half a month more bonus, which we have to add to the one that corresponds to us, one or two monthly payments, depending on our seniority in the company,” they add.
