Schwartzenberger had been”a genuine protector of the she loved and cared for,” Schwartzenberger’s buddy, Brenda Chavez, told the mourners in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
“To some dear friend, a husband, a doting mum, a motivational sister, a loving girl that could make any parent proud, as well as the greatest badass I understand, Laura, you blessed the life of each and every person you touched,” she explained. “We’ll never forget you.”
Schwartzenberger and representative Daniel Algin were gunned down in a search warrant implementation in Sunrise, Florida, on Tuesday morning. The research had been”to capture evidence in connection with suspected possession of child porn,” FBI Agents Association president Brian O’Hare explained. Three other representatives were hurt.
In 2007, she became the first and only female SWAT team member at the FBI’s Albuquerque area office, FBI Director Christopher Wray said in the service.
In 2010, Schwartzenberger moved to Miami and combined the offenses against kids team, that had been her”true calling,” Wray said.
“She led a life of absolute determination, courage and dedication,” Wray said, calling her”a real American hero”
“She had been courageous in pursuit of criminals… and she depended upon her heart and empathy in smaller minutes as it was needed the most,” he explained. “She brought light to some of the strangest places.”
“She was just like a mother to a number of the younger representatives,” Wray said.
“She had been an athlete in mind and body,” Wray said. “She had a sharp mental focus, endurance and sense of teamwork and camaraderie that enabled her to keep moving ahead, case after case and victim after victim.
“There is a heaviness in our hearts, a weight unlike any other, since there’s nothing more devastating to the FBI household compared to reduction of a broker on the line of duty,” Wray said. “It is the information we pray will not come, and when it comes, each FBI worker feels it deep down into their souls.”
Wray stated Schwartzenberger and Alfin were”two warriors that shot on one of the most difficult work in the FBI — offenses against kids,” and called them”among the most finest the FBI had to provide.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stated flags will be flown in half-staff on Saturday and Sunday in honor of Schwartzenberger and Alfin.
“Their sacrifice and courage won’t ever be forgotten,” DeSantis tweeted.
A memorial ceremony for Alfin is going to be held on Sunday.
