During the XII Fira de la Carbassa in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, pumpkins of all sizes and shapes have been seen, but those that have drawn the most admiration have been the three award-winning mega-pumpkins.

The three winners have been: first prize, 502 kg; second prize, 480 kg; and third prize, 391 kg. But, during the fair we could see a lot of pumpkins, as we see in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The fair, organized by the association Carbassaires de Sant Joan de les Abadesses, with the collaboration of the City Council, the Union of Shopkeepers and the Diputació de Girona, had its epicenter in Plaza Anselm Clavé.

This fair is one of the main autumn events in the Ripollès region and brings together several hundred people attracted by pumpkins.

The main attraction of the fair is seeing the giant pumpkin specimens presented by the farmers. In previous years, pumpkins weighing between 600 and 800 kilos have been seen. In October 2016, the pumpkin that broke the state record at that time could be seen. He weighed 614.5 kilograms and came from Cantalobos (Huesca).

In addition to the giant pumpkins, the fair offers a wide display of pumpkin-related products, such as fresh fruit, sweets, jams, juices, liqueurs, craft products, and much more. In addition, there are several workshops and activities for all audiences, such as a pumpkin sculpture demonstration, a children’s cooking workshop and tastings of dishes and products made with pumpkin.

The fair is a unique opportunity to discover the world of pumpkins and enjoy an autumn day with the family.
