Míchel Sánchez is one of the coaches of the season in world football. The Vallecas coach has managed to qualify Girona to the Champions League for the first time in its history, after beating Barça 4-2. Although the Catalan team does not know if they will be able to play in their field, Míchel is clear: “The Champions League has to be in Montilivi.”
The Girona stadium has a capacity for 14,000 people. However, UEFA prohibits extra stands, so only 9,000 fans will be able to access Champions League matches. Even so, the Catalan team’s coach wants to play in Montilivi, where Girona has only lost one match this season: “It’s a shame because perhaps there would be people who wouldn’t be able to enter the stadium, but we need to play and hear the Champions League anthem in our house. “The club is doing everything possible.”
Likewise, Míchel, in an interview for the El Món program on RAC1, confirmed that he will continue to lead the Girona bench: “Next season I will continue to be the coach of Girona, 100%.” The Vallecas coach hopes that three of the team’s mainstays, Dovbyk, Tsygankov and Aleix García, will continue with him: “I hope to see Aleix next season because he has a contract and I think the Ukrainians will also stay here.”
The one who is not so sure that he is going to stay is Savinho, since Manchester City has tied him up after negotiating with Troyes, a City Group team that owns him: “Savinho is my dream. I hope he can continue because he is the best player I have ever coached, but I don’t know because he is not our player.”
Furthermore, Míchel has indicated that he would also like to be able to count on two footballers who belong to FC Barcelona, ??such as Oriol Romeu, who has been at Barça for one season, and Eric García, who took the opposite path through a loan: “I I am very clear, I would like Eric and Oriol Romeu to return to Girona. “They would both be top signings and I would like to have them.”
With four games remaining, Girona has sealed its qualification for the Champions League in the best season in the club’s history. A campaign that will be recorded, as the Madrid coach has revealed that Netflix is ??preparing two documentaries about the Catalan team: “Yesterday they called me from Netflix and told me that what was happening was historic. There will be two documentaries about Girona.”
