Carlos Mazón has announced that he is willing to go to the Constitutional Court if the Government accepts Junts’ proposal to sanction Catalan companies established outside of Catalonia that do not want to return to their territory, for which he has requested the lawyers of the Generalitat Valenciana “Be alert”. In addition, the Valencian president has promised to defend the stay of these companies, almost a thousand, through a “stabilization and support plan” so that they remain in the Valencian Community. Furthermore, he invites “more Catalan companies” to settle in Valencia.
In the opinion of the leader of the Valencian PP, the Junts proposal shows that “nationalism has failed and only extortion remains.” “I’m starting to get tired of all this (…) We are not going to allow companies that are already from Valencia, Alicante and Castellón to be extorted or illegally fined.” According to him, the Junts idea shows that the Government and the parties that support it are willing to “extort and violate the Constitution and the freedom of business mobility.”
The mayor of Valencia, María José Català, has expressed herself in similar terms, describing Junts’ threat as “unconstitutional”. “·It is unconstitutional to penalize companies that do not return to Catalonia. It is not constitutional. That is breaking all the red lines that exist in our country,” commented the first Valencian mayor.
On the other hand, the popular group in the Valencian Cortes has registered a non-law proposal for special urgent processing to respect the free choice of business domicile and against the approval of privileges or sanctions for its transfer.
The PP ombudsman, Miguel Barrachina, explained at a press conference that the proposal “asks for three things: that the freedom of companies that are already Valencian to continue residing in the Valencian Community be respected; that the government of Spain does not act against some autonomous communities by privileging others and that the company law is not changed at the request of its Junts partners to ensure that the 974 companies that originally came from Catalonia freely have to return forcibly. That is, those companies that, using their freedom, want to remain Valencian and Spanish are not sanctioned as intended.”
