The Federation of Business Associations and Guilds of Maresme (FAGEM) and the Chair of Circular Economy and Sustainability of the TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme (TCM) launch a study to analyze the potential for inclusion of the circular economy in the region and promote transformation economy of Maresme towards that socioeconomic model. The study will last a year and a half and will focus on detecting opportunities for the Maresme business community in its transition to the circular economy. The results will be presented in a forum scheduled for April 2025.
The president of FAGEM, Roser Moré, explains that the changes derived from circularity “are simple gestures but with high environmental profitability.” Moré also highlights that with the transformation of production models “they allow new business opportunities to become reality, giving value to excess resources and finding innovative solutions in the provision of necessary resources.”
In fact, this joint project of FAGEM and the TCM Chair was born in an economic and social context in which the circular economy has become one of the main pillars of socioeconomic transformation. In this sense, currently the business opportunities that derive from sustainability are the object of study in any business plan or business growth. “It is about rethinking our production and consumption model, understanding waste as new resources, and keeping them in operation for longer, so that we can avoid the depletion of raw materials and stop the piles of waste that we generate,” explains the acting director and researcher of the Chair of Circular Economy and Sustainability of the TCM Ariadna Benet.
In parallel with the study, the project includes six training days to spread circular culture among the business and administrative fabric. The first appointment will be on January 18 and is proposed as a first contact for companies with the circular economy. The rest of the program days will be in March, April, July and November 2024 and in February 2025.
Most sessions will include practical workshops and will cover topics such as the circular business model; circular governance and the driving role of city councils; the barriers, challenges and opportunities of the new productive model; successful experiences of the circular economy, or financing avenues to apply circularity in companies. The Study of the potential of the circular economy in Maresme, Maresme Circular, is a study co-financed by the Catalan Waste Agency.
