Mataró City Council and Bar Association collaborate in the fight against occupations

The mayor of Mataró (Maresme), David Bote, and the dean of the Illustrious College of Lawyers (ICAMAT), María Pastor, signed an agreement this morning to promote and consolidate different lines of institutional collaboration and support for citizens in prevention and resolution of criminal uses of real estate that cause coexistence problems.

The agreement contemplates launching a civil and criminal legal guidance and information service aimed at citizens and especially vulnerable neighborhood communities with coexistence problems derived from the problem of criminal occupations.

This legal guidance will be offered by practicing specialist lawyers designated by the ICAMAT and will be provided on working Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in municipal offices starting in June, always with prior referral from the services of the Public Security Area. The City Council will allocate a maximum amount of 15,000 euros (VAT included) for one year.

ICAMAT will also guide and inform the municipal services most directly involved in intervention in situations of illegal employment, especially the Local Police, the Housing Service and the Mediation Service.

In addition, the agreement also aims to promote and consolidate other lines of collaboration such as, for example, the participation of both institutions in working groups; the organization of debate days; and the study and proposal of regulatory initiatives aimed at reversing the problems of insecurity and coexistence generated by criminal occupations of properties.
