The coffin of the Sevillian artist María Jiménez, who died yesterday in her hometown at the age of 73, traveled this morning the distance between the Seville City Hall, where her funeral chapel was located yesterday, and the Parish of Santa Ana, in Triana. The carriage that carried the coffin of this cante figure was drawn by four horses and she was accompanied during the journey by her relatives and admirers, who did not want to miss the opportunity to say their last goodbyes.

Her neighborhood said goodbye to her for sevillanas, “as she wanted,” according to the people of Triana, while a fandango, the salve rocarera and other songs and touches with an unmistakable flamenco air marked her funeral mass. Of course, María has been leaving part of her essence in the streets, breaking molds and making, above all, a lot of noise.

Shortly before a quarter to eleven, the artist’s coffin undertook its last trip to Triana. A packed funeral procession joined the ride. Already in the Parish, full of people, a ceremony was held where the cante has taken on a real leading role. After the mass, the mortal remains arrived at the San Fernando cemetery, in the Andalusian capital, at around 1:30 p.m., where she will finally rest.

Jiménez’s death has shocked many of her followers, although the artist had previously had health problems. It was at the beginning of the week when the singer attended the Infanta Elena Clinic from Chiclana, where she was spending her summer vacation, for a check-up and the medical team opted for her admission. Finally, she died, leaving a city shocked and a town paying constant tribute to her.

Public figures from all fields, political, cultural and artistic, have expressed their condolences to this great figure of singing in various ways, many of them have attended the funeral chapel to pay their respects.

It was yesterday afternoon when the mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, announced that Triana will have a space dedicated to the whirlwind who broke molds on stage but also when she got off the stage.
