A man was taken into custody by the Broward Sheriff’s Office after a tragic incident in Pompano Beach. The man, identified as Edwin Amaya, allegedly ran over the mother of his child, Brenda Hernandez Amaya, with his pickup truck following an argument. The disturbing event was captured on video by deputies.

The altercation reportedly took place near 130 S.W. Eighth Street, where the couple was arguing over their shared child. Edwin Amaya then got into his Ford F-250 and deliberately drove it into Hernandez Amaya. During this time, another victim named Omar Munguia-Henrique tried to hold onto the vehicle and fell to the ground as Edwin Amaya drove into parked cars.

Tragically, Brenda Hernandez Amaya did not survive the incident and passed away at the hospital. Edwin Amaya fled the scene but was apprehended by deputies on South Dixie Highway and now faces a premeditated murder charge.

The family of Brenda Hernandez Amaya shared that she leaves behind three children and they are making arrangements to have her remains sent to Honduras for a funeral. It was revealed that she had a 2-year-old son with Edwin Amaya.

The 10-year-old daughter of Hernandez Amaya witnessed the horrifying event and expressed her shock and disbelief. She described being unable to cry or speak, instead running away in fear.
