Madrid will award the works to expand metro line 5 to the airport this year

The Community of Madrid plans to tender and award this year the works for the expansion project for Metro line 5 between Alameda de Osuna and the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas airport.

At an informative breakfast, organized by Europa Press, the Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, announced that it is “an important project” for the region, in which the regional Government will invest 209 million euros so that Madrid residents will have a new direct access to the airport, according to the forecasts of the regional Executive, in 2026.

The new section of the suburban will have a length of 1,755 meters, and will connect the Alameda de Osuna station on line 5 and the Airport station (in terminals 1, 2 and 3) on line 8 of the suburban, where it will be established an exchange station.

The connection responds to a demand from the residents of Alameda de Osuna, one of the neighborhoods in the Barajas district, because many of them work at the aerodrome.

On the other hand, Rodrigo has indicated that the new station on Metro line 9 between the urban developments in the southeastern area of ??Los Ahijones and Los Berrocales is expected to be ready in 2028, after the tender for the contract for the drafting of the project. , with a budget of 352,717 euros, according to the Contracting Portal of the Community of Madrid.

The new line 9 station will be connected to the Gran Vía sel Sureste, where the priority bus will circulate that will serve these urban developments, in which thousands of homes will be built.
