The Transfusion Center has organized a blood donation marathon under the motto ‘The heart of Madrid is in Vicálvaro’, which will take place from this Monday until next Saturday, the 23rd, with the aim of guaranteeing blood reserves, which are currently at 60%.
According to a statement from the Community of Madrid, the marathon will be expanded with a mobile unit that, with the collaboration of the Red Cross, will be placed on the 22nd, between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., on Miguel Ángel Avenue. Delibes 30, near the El Cañaveral neighborhood.
The regional Executive adopts this initiative because at this time of year the number of people who come to donate decreases by 25%, due to thousands of Madrid residents traveling outside the region.
In joint work with the Madrid City Council, through the Vicálvaro Municipal District Board, numerous associations and businesses, cultural spaces, institutes and schools participate in this campaign, inviting citizens and, especially, Vicalvareños, to join this cause.
On the first day of the marathon, the venue will host an exhibition by the Canine Guide Unit of the National Police and, in addition, as a thank you to the donors, chocolate and churros will be offered and you will be able to participate in a raffle for breakfast, lunch and dinner, thanks to the collaboration of several hospitality establishments.
On the other hand, during these holidays, those people who want to contribute with their blood can do so through the 32 fixed donation points of the hospitals and the Mobile Units of the Red Cross, whose locations and opening hours can be consulted via the website .
The Consistory remembers that the basic requirements that must be met in order to be a blood donor are to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health.
