The Community of Madrid has modernized the pharmacy services of 26 public hospitals in the region by incorporating cutting-edge technology in the form of dispensing robots, automated warehouses, dosing systems for the preparation of drugs and repackaging machines for packaging them into unit doses. , reports Servimedia.
As noted this Tuesday by the regional Executive, these innovations represent a “comprehensive transformation” of the logistical and assistance processes involved in this area of ??assistance.
“The objective is, with the highest innovation, to increase the quality, safety and efficiency of the entire chain of drug use,” explained the Minister of Health, Fátima Matute, during her visit to the El Escorial Public University Hospital, where launched actions within the 2021/2023 Plan for Technological Innovation of the Hospital Pharmacy Services of the Madrid Health Service (Sermas).
This update of the organization and operation of hospital pharmacies has also been carried out in other public centers in the region: Gregorio Marañón, Ramón y Cajal, La Paz, 12 de Octubre, Clínico San Carlos, La Princesa, Niño Jesús, Cruz Roja and Infanta Leonor, all of them in the capital; as well as Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, Príncipe de Asturias (Alcalá de Henares), Getafe, Alcorcón, Fuenlabrada, Móstoles, Severo Ochoa and José Germain (Leganés), Infanta Cristina (Parla), Infanta Sofía (San Sebastián de los Reyes), Henares (Coslada), Tajo (Aranjuez), Sureste (Arganda del Rey), La Fuenfría (Cercedilla), Guadarrama, and Virgen de la Poveda (Villa del Prado), in addition to the aforementioned El Escorial.
The project, led by the General Subdirectorate of Pharmacy and Health Products of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with hospital pharmacists, has been developed in the period 2021/2023 financed with 16 million euros from the Program for the development of measures to improve efficiency and the sustainability of the National Health System, with funds from the Farmaindustria agreement.
In the case of El Escorial, an automated medication storage and distribution system has been incorporated. Thus, through a vertical carousel, stock management is optimized, since there is greater control of inventories and expiration dates. In addition, it allows better use of physical space and security in the delivery of drugs and facilitates the activity of professionals.
