The Madrid City Council is going to install 800 transparent bins for the pride festivities in the capital. They have been placed from June 24 to July 2.

Of the total, some 544 have been placed in the main squares where the big concerts are going to be held, such as the Zerolo square, the Callao square, the España square and the King square, which will become the epicenter of the festival. as well as in the nearby streets. And the rest, about 256, will be placed only for the demonstration next Saturday.

According to the Department of the Environment of the town hall, headed by José Luis Martínez-Almeida, “these bins make it possible to recycle the containers very well; if they are collected from the ground, they are dirty and mixed with other things, it is more difficult.”

Among the advantages that the City Council of the capital points out is that “they are put on and taken off much more quickly and without the need to make holes in the sidewalks or place expensive supports on the furniture.” They are put on the lampposts. In addition, they point, allows the content to be seen. And, finally, they consider that they provide more security because “you can see what is inside”.

From the consistory they point out that it is not the first time they have been used, but that in other events of large concerts or in the San Isidro festivities “where there are also large accumulations of people”, they have also been used.

The debate on whether this type of bins are vandalizable or not has been opened on social networks. Some tweeter like Mauro Entrialgo highlighted that in Paris they have been installing this type for ten years to “detect possible explosives, although they are green.” Some other tweeter also points out that “in some cities these bags were put on as an anti-terrorist measure, when the contents of the bags were seen from afar.”

Most agree that if they are used to eliminate piles of garbage in those areas, they will avoid complaints from the neighbors.
