The Ayuso effect has catapulted the PP to nearly 120 mayors of the Community of Madrid with notorious electoral overturns such as those promoted by Lucía Fernández and Rocío García Alcántara who have become the first female mayors in the history of San Sebastián de los Reyes this Saturday and Alcobendas, respectively.

In the plenary session of constitution of Sanse it has passed with total normality. The elected councilors have taken possession of their positions, after taking an oath or promise to abide by the Constitution. Subsequently, the Municipal Corporation has been constituted, which has elected Lucía Soledad Fernández as the first mayoress of San Sebastián de los Reyes, with the votes in favor of the Popular Party and no abstentions.

The new mayoress has sworn to the Constitution, and after taking office, has offered a speech focused on the importance of San Sebastián de los Reyes in the region.

“Starting today we promise to govern for everyone, without rest, to govern for all of you who have trusted us and for those who have not, too. San Sebastián de los Reyes is among the 75 largest municipalities in Spain. says soon. Being one of the most important cities in our country, we have to govern with a high vision. We have to leave our skin to be benchmarks of good government, in order to become the capital of the north of Madrid”, he assured, in her speech, the new mayoress.

This extraordinary plenary session has been broadcast live through Canal Norte TV Digital and has been attended by a large number of guests from the new Corporation, as well as residents who have come to the City Hall to follow the plenary session from the screen located inside of the El Caserón building.

A resident of the town by birth, Lucía Fernández, at 39, has a degree in Law and Political Science from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and a master’s degree in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is an ICAM lawyer, she is on leave from the private company where she worked. She has worked as a political adviser in London and was Councilor for Equality, Youth and Children in the 2011-2015 term.

Fernández is also president and spokesperson for the Popular Party of San Sebastián de los Reyes, as well as a member of the National Executive Committee of the PP and deputy of the Madrid Assembly in the last legislature.

For her part, in neighboring Alcobendas, the Popular Party candidate, Rocío García Alcántara, has been elected mayor today, becoming the first woman in charge of the City Council to hold this municipal responsibility in the entire history of the city.

“I am proud to be the first female mayor and that women reach management bodies. It is a great responsibility that I assume with great responsibility and enthusiasm, but I deserve to be judged by my actions and not by my gender. I want the focus of pay attention to my successes in public management and the expertise to improve the city as happened with the rest of my predecessors”, stated the newly appointed mayoress.

In the individual vote to elect mayor among the candidates proposed by the parties represented in the new Municipal Corporation, Rocío has received the 13 votes of her group and the vote of the councilor for Futuro Alcobendas-Ciudadanos, of the until today mayor Aitor Retolaza.

The new Municipal Corporation has been made up of 13 councilors from the PP, nine from the PSOE, three from Vox, one from Más Madrid Alcobendas and one from Futuro Alcobendas-Ciudadanos.

The new mayoress has promised that it is her intention to “recover the policies that led Alcobendas to excellence in quality of life, being the city with the lowest tax burden in the Community of Madrid”, and added that her commitment is “to be the mayoress of everyone, those who voted for me and those who did not trust me”.

“In my city project there are no blue and red light districts. There are no first class residents and second class residents. We must overcome these false dichotomies. Alcobendas grows when the 120,000 residents join in the common goal of improving the city”, he added .

In addition, the mayor of Alcobendas has said that her government team owes it to all the unemployed residents, families with difficulties paying their mortgage or making ends meet, entrepreneurs eager to have an opportunity and the hundreds of residents with desires and demands to which to give answers.”

Rocío García has added that she will leave her skin “so that the name of Alcobendas has European recognition and attracts as many sporting and cultural events and business investments as possible. I want to recover the feeling of belonging, and even of presumptuousness, that we have always had alcobendenses”.

The recently appointed mayor has pointed out five pillars on which the recovery of the dynamism, quality and excellence of the city will be based: responding to all those who yearn to stay and live in Alcobendas by expediting the start-up of Los Carriles-Valgrande with thousands of homes for rent and sale; reconciliation and birth promotion policies will be the central axis of the municipal government with a check for 500 euros for the birth of a child, new places in nursery schools, the opening of the Official School of Languages, and an investment plan in garden areas and playgrounds in the city.

The third commitment is to extend the financial district of Madrid Nuevo Norte to Menina de Alcobendas itself. “The new Madrid Norte Boulevard will be built on the old Fuencarral highway and will serve to completely renovate the Industrial Estate. Alcobendas will be a friendly city with the self-employed, businessmen and entrepreneurs to be the great pole of growth in the north of the region “, he indicated.

The fourth is to keep taxes low and public services agile and efficient without triggering public debt. And the fifth commitment of the new mayoress is security in all districts with the installation of video surveillance cameras and more police patrols in preventive patrol work close to the neighbors.

García Alcántara has assured that “it will be demanding for our neighborhoods to once again be an example of cleanliness, quality of life and civic coexistence”. In addition, he stated that “for the first time in history, Alcobendas will launch SEMURA, an ambulance service that will cover medical emergencies 24 hours a day, emulating the Madrid SAMUR service.”

The new councilor has finished her first speech as mayoress with a message to three groups: the public employees of the City Council “to whom we owe to a large extent that Alcobendas is today a great city”; to her team of councilors, whom she has thanked for her trust and loyalty in difficult times, and to her family, whom she has thanked for “her infinite patience, understanding, and affection.”

The new mayor, a personal commitment by Isabel Díaz Ayuso. She has a degree in Law, she has carried out her professional activity in various companies and law firms. She has served as councilor for Economic Development and Employment in the Tres Cantos City Council since 2019 and, in the previous term, she was an advisor to the Alcobendas City Council, specifically in the Urban Planning and Housing department.
