“I love music, because it is what makes me feel and be alive,” says José MarÃa Sanz Beltrán, Loquillo. The mythical singer, a true legend of Spanish rock, has confessed that for some years he no longer plans in advance due to the diagnosis of a “serious” health problem.
An ailment that very few knew about, which also coincided with the release of his album Diario de una trugua and that he has confessed during his speech on Hora 25, from Cadena SER, where he has opened up to Aimar Bretos about how he is “serious” illness has somehow conditioned their future at all levels.
The Barcelona artist took advantage of his time on the radio to talk about his most personal life, and make an unexpected confession for his followers: he suffers from a considerable neck ailment for which he did not want to be operated on, despite the insistence of the doctors, who described it as “serious”.
The singer presents his new work, and was precisely talking about one of his songs, Will of Good, when he confessed that he suffered from his ailment. “This song was recorded at a time when I was diagnosed with a serious neck disease,” the artist explained to Bretos at one point in the interview, “They gave me the option of having surgery and I said no. I told my composer, this lasts as long as it lasts”.
The lyrics of this song include a verse that says “let me die, let me live, let me toast, give me a drink”, something that for Loquillo “advances what is coming and is put there because it says many things”.
The singer already confessed in Diario Médico that he was diagnosed with multinodular thyroid goiter in 2021, which he realized because he did not close his shirt. “The tests would determine the severity and, given the size of the goiter, a high-risk operation that could threaten the vocal cords was not ruled out,” he revealed then, before the goiter reduced and returned to its being, with only periodic check-ups being necessary. . “I hope that everything goes on the right path and this is resolved,” he says now.
For this reason, he assures that he does not look to the most distant future, for what may happen. “At the moment I’m fine with the neck, but I haven’t made plans in advance for a few years. I enjoy life, I try to make others happy and above all I love music because it is what makes me live and be alive,” insists.
What’s more, the singer wanted to highlight the strength of one of his relatives, who has been fighting cancer for no less than 12 years. A true example of self-improvement for the artist, who insists that “one has to live this with great dignity”.
Little is known about the ailment suffered by the artist, but what is certain is that the interpreter of songs like Solitary Cadillac does not intend to stop working. What’s more, the singer will start his new tour next Thursday, May 25, with which he will tour Spain throughout the summer. For him, it is the best thing that can happen to him. “I like to take my songs all over the country. I like to play everywhere. It’s a problem, but by doing this I avoid problems for others,” he says, insisting that: “You ask me if I’m happy with this and I tell you completely.”
