The iconic “bob” style has been crowned this summer as the most demanded haircut by singers, models and influential people on social networks. It is defined by law as a hairstyle that is not long, but not too short, with texture and that brings lightness, movement and a healthy appearance to the hair. Curiously, it is a cut that is attributed to Monsieur Antoine, the hairdresser of Polish origin Antoni Cierplikowski, also known as Antoine de Paris, who used Joan of Arc as inspiration to popularize it in his salon in 1909. More than a hundred years later, The bob is the most searched haircut on Google, followed by all its variants, from the French bob to the long bob.
Aitana Ocaña was one of the first to raise the alarm that the French bob could rise as the great trend for next summer. She showed it to the world through a Tiktok, also announcing what will be her next album: “Alpha era”. At first glance, it might seem like a classic French bob, since it incorporates bangs and its length exceeds a couple of centimeters from the height of the chin, but it differs in the number of layers it incorporates.
As the singer’s stylists explained, Aitana’s hair is naturally fine and it was necessary to combine lengths between layers to create a light parade and give movement, body and volume to the hair. Another artist who gave free rein to the scissors was Chanel Terrero. The ‘Slomo’ singer reappeared at Benidorm Fest with a classic bob haircut, but with a different variant known as the Sharp bob. The latter has nothing to do with the cut but with the way of combing it. With natural waves and slightly tucked ends for a rounded, polished finish. This style became popular among the young people of the sixties who rebelled against the carding of the mothers and grandmothers of the time.
Chiara Ferragni, international fashion prescriber and Italian influencer, was one of the first to appear this year with a radical change of look and she did it with a long bob. She took advantage of one of the most important moments of her career at the Sanremo Festival, where she served as emcee, to premiere her haircut. This modality presented by the businesswoman is the less daring version of the cut, since it is a variant that lengthens below the chin and is above the shoulders, with the characteristic inclination of the bob that leads to marked outward ends.
Hailey Baldwin Bieber and Olivia Palermo, two of the most admired ‘it girls’ in the fashion industry, agreed on the choice of the classic bob, each one adapting it to their own style. The first, a lover of urban fashion and athleisure aesthetics, opted for a carefree, slightly disheveled hair parted on one side.
The second, true to her classic identity and preppy style, opted for a much more polished mane, with the ends combed out, and with a retro touch that recalls the aesthetics of the famous flapper women of the twenties.
