Long Island shark attack leaves man with possible injuries

Authorities believe a shark attack on Long Island, New York, left a man with a foot injury.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, the injury happened at around 1 p.m.

His right foot was lacerated. The laceration was diagnosed as a shark bite by the responding medics, according to police in a news release.

Police stated that they would increase patrols at all beaches in Nassau County ahead of the July Fourth weekend.

This is the second shark attack on Jones Beach in the last year. According to CBS New York, a lifeguard reported that he was bitten on his leg by a shark and then saw a fin in the water. Although it was not confirmed that the shark bite occurred, Jones Beach saw several shark sightings in July 2021.

The incident comes after a girl suffered serious injuries in a shark attack on a Florida beach. Officials said that the girl was swimming in five-foot deep water when the shark attacked. A family member jumped in to help her escape the attack. She is expected to make it through.

A shark attack on a California beach left a surfer, aged 62, with serious injuries. He is expected to also survive.
