I have visited the communal oven of Vergós Guerrejat, a population entity in the municipality of Estaràs, in the Segarra region. But, I have a problem, what year was it built? Can you help me figure it out?

This is the new logic challenge that I propose to you today in The Readers’ Challenge of La Vanguardia. To do this, I am now going to show you in detail the inscription where in principle the date on which this oven was built should appear.

Have you managed to decipher the entire inscription and find the year the honor was built? While you finish solving the mystery, I will explain something more about this installation.

Or, at least, I will explain to you a curious detail about the Vergós Guerrejat oven. As I said before, it is communal and each house had its assigned day of the week to bake the bread.

I am going to show you some other photographs of the oven, among which we can see the detail of the dome or stone roof, as well as the access door.

I don’t know if you have already solved the Challenge or not, but I am going to explain how to decipher the entire inscription. And, by the way, the year of construction of the oven is 1702. I mark in bold all the elements that were recorded to leave a record.

They have Edificado me, 1702 and, finally, the identification of the name of the bricklayer or stonemason.
