Linda Evangelista has had a complicated year in terms of revelations. At the beginning of September, the Canadian model confessed to the media that she had undergone a double masectomy. All of this after being diagnosed with breast cancer, the second time it had happened to her since 2018. News that adds to other more stark news, which she revealed this week in a documentary for Apple TV.
In the last episode of the series The Super Models, Evangelista confessed to being a victim of abuse by her ex-husband, the Frenchman Gérard Marie, who was director of the Elite Model agency. The former model, also accused of sexual abuse by several women after separating from her wife in 1993, allegedly hit her repeatedly. The outstanding figure on the catwalk highlighted that Marie knew perfectly what she was doing at all times.
“He knew not to touch my face, not to touch anything that would make money. He told me that he would give me a divorce only if he kept everything. At least he was safe and I was able to regain my freedom,” the model confessed during the broadcast of the documentary. Despite twenty years having passed since their separation from her, the echo of Gérard Marie’s abuse still resonates, with multiple accusations emerging in the years to come.
Outside of this murky matter, Evangelista spoke openly about his cancer diagnosis this past September. An interview in The Wall Street Journal allowed her to tell all the details of his situation: “I was detected after my annual mammogram. The results were not good and, due to other health factors, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy. Thinking that I was going to be fine for life. “That breast cancer was not going to kill me.”
Shortly after, a second diagnosis arrived, from which he was also able to recover satisfactorily. “I know I have one foot in the grave, but I’m totally in celebration mode,” he expressed in this regard. “I am very happy to be alive. Everything that comes now is a bonus,” she added to his comments. The double mastectomy was another setback she faced in recent years, after cosmetic operations that had very negative results.
“To my followers who have wondered why I haven’t been working while my colleagues’ careers are thriving: the reason is that I was savagely disfigured by Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting procedure, which did the opposite of what was promised,” she explained on her Instagram profile. Instagram, revealing an image that would go around the world. Evangelista sued the company responsible for $50 million in damages.
