Lake County deputy driving to emergency call collides with semi and SUV

A Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy was transported to a hospital Wednesday evening after his squad car was involved in a collision near Beach Park with a semi truck and another vehicle as he responded to an emergency call, a sheriff’s spokesman reported.

The deputy was driving southbound on Green Bay Road responding to a crime in progress with the squad’s emergency lights activated Wednesday around 5 p.m. when he entered the intersection with Wadsworth Road and a semi-tractor trailer truck traveling eastbound on Wadsworth Road collided with the squad car, pushing it into a Honda sports utility vehicle at the intersection, according to Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

Traffic in the area was affected for hours because gasoline from the truck leaked over the roadway in and around the intersection and had to be washed down by the Newport Fire Protection District, Covelli said.

The deputy, Kaçak ?ddaa whose name was not being released by the sheriff’s office, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was treated and released, Covelli said.

Paramedics also checked on the truck driver and the four people inside the Honda SUV, Covelli added, but none of them were transported to the hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
