La Tarasca de Granada on Corpus Wednesday suspended due to rain

The parade of the Tarasca, the mannequin on a dragon that announces the great days of Corpus Christi in Granada, has been suspended due to the rain that falls on the Granada capital this Wednesday morning, despite which the doors of the The main headquarters of the City Council will remain open so that anyone who wants to see it can do so in the hall of the old convent in Plaza del Carmen, in the center of the city.

The designer in charge of this Corpus for the design of the Tarasca is María Francés, who, together with the stylist and make-up artist Antonio Valiente, and the marketing director of Vipsual, Ángela Urtóller Avilés, explain, along with the acting Councilor for Culture, María de Leyva , to the media the details of the best kept secret, the styling of the Pública de las fiestas, which this year wears glasses and will not appear in the parade that was scheduled to start at 12:00.

In it, the Tarasca is preceded by the traditional giants and big heads, who embody the Catholic Monarchs and the last monarchs of the Nasrid dynasty that ruled Granada, Boabdil and Moraima. She parades on top of a dragon, thus symbolizing the triumph of beauty over the monstrous.

Also pending the forecast of rain, for Thursday the Custody of the Blessed Sacrament is preparing to go out into the streets of the city, integrated into a religious procession, within a procession also headed by the Tarascan with the giants and big heads.

According to popular tradition, certain towns in La Vega were obliged to deliver oxen carts loaded with aromatic plants (sedge and storax) to the city, to carpet the path of custody, covered by burlap awnings as a canopy.

Along with the Public and Custody, parishes, unions, brotherhoods, clergy, local authorities, ecclesiastical dignities, public and private entities are part of the procession.
